Beginner's Guide to : False Lashes

For anyone who is new to makeup, the thought of applying false lashes can be a scary feat. The idea of aiming a pair of tweezers towards your eye that are gripping onto a glue laden strip of falsies hardly sounds like an appealing activity. I was once an apprehensive novice, however I soon realised that it's actually an awful lot easier than it looks and I have a handful of tips to make you an expert.

First things first, I would suggest starting out with individual lashes rather than strips. I actually find these easier to apply and they create a more natural look. You can hardly feel that you are wearing anything and they simply add a fullness and length to your lashes.

My favourite brand to use our the Ardell Individuals, I have them in the medium which are the perfect fit for my natural lashes. The other two things you will need is a lash glue; I use the Eylure Lashfix Adhesive, and a pair of tweezers.

Start my dabbing a small blob of glue onto the back of your hand, or a plain piece of card. Then use your tweezers to to pull one lash at a time from the tray. You should be holding the lash so that the flared end is held by the tweezer and the curve should be going downwards. Dip the point of the lash into the glue and wait for a few seconds for it to dry slightly. Then place the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible, in the area where you want to see more volume. Push it down and then let go and your lash should stay perfectly in place.

I tend to apply three to four lashes at a time, and concentrate them on the outer half of my lash line, to add volume and length at the edge. This works for me as I have small eyes and the extra lashes on the end help to create the appearance of a longer eye shape.

I hope these tips help you to feel more confident giving lashes a go. You can start out by just wearing a couple at a time, see how you get on, and then begin to wear more along your entire lash line.
